Riding a wave of enterprise adoption in the booming voice AI sector, SoundHound AI has reported significant revenue growth and is pursuing a major acquisition, though the company continues to post net losses as it invests in expansion.

SoundHound AI Reports Strong Revenue Growth Amid Strategic Acquisition and Continued Losses

SoundHound AI, a prominent player in the voice artificial intelligence space, announced strong financial growth for the first quarter of 2026, with revenues reaching a record $44.2 million. This figure represents a 52% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, driven by what the company describes as high demand across its automotive and IoT AI segments.

The company has reaffirmed its revenue forecast for the full year of 2026, expecting it to fall between $225 million and $260 million. This performance comes as the broader market for voice and conversational AI experiences rapid expansion. According to one market report, the voice AI market was valued at $9.05 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $11.71 billion in 2026. Another forecast estimates the conversational AI market will grow from nearly $18 billion in 2026 to over $82 billion by 2034.

Growth Strategy and Key Developments

A central element of SoundHound's recent strategy is its pending acquisition of LivePerson, a digital messaging and conversational AI company. The deal, expected to close in the second half of 2026, is intended to combine SoundHound's voice AI capabilities with LivePerson's digital services, expanding its enterprise customer base. The company projects the combined business could generate between $350 million and $400 million in revenue in 2027.

SoundHound's business model is centered on licensing its technology to other businesses, primarily in the automotive, restaurant, and customer service industries. In April 2026, the company announced an expanded partnership with convenience retailer Casey's, deploying its voice AI for ordering in over 2,600 stores. The company has also secured partnerships with technology advisory firm Bridgepointe and navigation company TomTom this year.

The Path to Profitability

Despite the strong top-line growth, profitability remains a significant challenge. For the first quarter of 2026, SoundHound reported a GAAP net loss of $25.0 million and an adjusted EBITDA loss of $26.7 million. The company's operating expenses have scaled alongside its revenues, rising from $80 million in 2021 to $252 million in 2025. For comparison, revenue grew from $21 million to $169 million over the same period.

The company ended the first quarter with $216 million in cash and no debt, providing a financial runway for its growth and integration plans. However, analysts note that the costs associated with the LivePerson acquisition and continued investment in research and development mean the path to profitability may be longer than some investors had anticipated.
